Stafford  Celebration Event: On Tuesday 17th July Stafford and Cannock League of Hospital Friends held their celebration event at The Mayor’s Parlour in Stafford. The celebration event was held to to mark 60 years of Stafford and Cannock League of Hospital Friends serving the community and also the 70th birthday of the NHS.

The volunteers had a reception at The Mayors Parlour in Stafford, which started with a talk by Councillor Jack Kemp followed by refreshments hosted by The Worshipful The Mayor, Ray Barron and The Mayoress, Jenny Barron of Stafford Borough.

We have 34 wonderful volunteers in the Stafford area who volunteer at the coffee bars in St George and County Hospitals in Stafford. They provide a welcoming service to patients and staff, and serve hot and cold drinks and snacks.

Over the past 60 years the League of Friends have provided hundreds of thousands of pounds for equipment for our local hospitals, including:

  • £50,000 for the ‘League of Friends Chemotherapy Treatment Unit’ at County Hospital, Stafford,
  • An ‘Art for Health’ project and ward furniture for St Georges Hospital at Stafford.

Martin Thornley, Chief Executive of Stafford and Cannock League of Hospital Friends, said “we would like to thank all of our volunteers, past and present, for their hard work and dedication over the last 60 years. They are an amazing team and have provided a great service to hospital visitors and staff, whilst raising money for projects for the hospital”.

We are always looking for new volunteers to join the team so if you are interested please contact Liz Hill, Volunteer Co-ordinator at elizabeth.hill@sclohf.co.uk or contact 01785 413234.
